SSLA's strategy chart comes from Midwest Academy, a national training institute committed to advancing the struggle for social, economic, and racial justice. Midwest academy is well-known for advancing movements for progressive social change by teaching strategic, rigorous, results-oriented approaches to social action and organization building. Goals Long Term Goals:
to achieve greater, more legitimate faculty representation/consideration in BOV meetings We question the reasoning behind why our UMW faculty representative is asked to leave during closed BOV meetings Short Term Goals: to postpone the review until provided with justification (in the form of evidence or data) UMW Department Chair of Classics, Philosophy and Religion: "There is nothing wrong with regular program review and assessment of what we’re doing, but it should be undertaken in a way that cultivates trust amongst the faculty" (Vasey, Important Message from the Provost). |

-to share and update information -to encourage consensus-based action -Demonstrations and marches* -Raising awareness through pamphlets, posters, and various resources -Keeping issues public and open vis a vis the Freelance Star, UMW Bullet, internet...etc -Maintaining Legitimacy (by citing and providing easy-to-access sources and by striving to keep SSLA's demands/literature congruent with the information given from UMW faculty -Contacting Alumni and Donors for support *members of SSLA will not be required or pressured into participating in demonstrations or marches |
